Supervision

Reflection

1. Reflect on the process of developing leadership level knowledge, skills, and practices in this competency. What has been especially impactful/meaningful/important to you personally and professionally?

I have truly enjoyed engaging with students and faculty during the various supervision opportunities I have in class. Part of the reason I have to chosen to pursue this degree is to give back to the profession that I love, and I see that as helping train future counselors. I look forward to engaging in this even more as I continue my counseling journey.

    2. Describe an area of strength that you have developed while in the program in this area of competency. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation?

I believe that I have honed my discernment skills to genuinely meet students where they are, whether personally or professionally. I have enjoyed mentoring students and working with them in the CSDR program; helping them build their skills and confidence gives me immense satisfaction and I hope to expand my role in a supervisory capacity after graduation.

    3. Describe an area of challenge/growth opportunity in this area of competency. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area?

One area of growth I have experienced is recognizing the various needs of students depending on their progress in their masters program. I sometimes felt like I was sharing basic information that they were already familiar with, and my site supervisor and faculty supervisor helped me gain understanding of the nuances in each development level of master’s students. These interactions with faculty and students have bolstered my passion for supervision and for counselor education.

    4. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency.

Jesus is the great teacher; He always took time to make meaningful connections with those who needed Him most. By continually reflecting on scripture, I not only strengthen my faith, but I feel equipped to walk in the calling God has given me to be a counselor educator.
